How we build SoloGestion: software for one profession only, the Moroccan auto-entrepreneur

Generic invoicing software does everything, for everyone, and therefore nothing precise for you. Here are the choices that make SoloGestion a trade tool.

How we build SoloGestion: software for one profession only, the Moroccan auto-entrepreneur

Most invoicing software is designed for “businesses”. It has charts of accounts, VAT, journals, fixed assets, and an auto-entrepreneur spends their time ignoring menus and working around fields. We took the opposite path: one regime, yours, with its rules built in right down to the dashboard. This article tells the design choices, the visible and the invisible ones, and what we refuse to add. It complements the About page.

The regime first, the software second

Before writing a line of code, we listed what a Moroccan auto-entrepreneur actually has to do: invoice with the right details, track revenue received against the ceiling, compute the quarter’s or month’s tax, watch the per-client withholding threshold, keep a payment register, and be able to hand figures to an accountant the day they need one. Every feature answers one of these points; what does not is not in the product. That is why SoloGestion has no payroll or cost-accounting module: an auto-entrepreneur has none.

The register’s 104 activities, as they are

At sign-up you pick your activity from the national register’s official list, not from an invented one. The software derives your category (services, trade, industry, crafts), hence your ceiling and your rate. If your activity is mixed (a photographer who also sells prints, a trainer who sells manuals), you can adjust it, and every payment carries its category, so the quarter is right. We update the list when the register changes it.

Revenue received, not revenue invoiced

It is the most important choice, and the most invisible. The auto-entrepreneur’s tax is computed on what is received, not on what is invoiced. The whole tax side of the product therefore rests on the payment register: ceiling, tax, withholding, everything starts there. An unpaid invoice does not count; a deposit received counts immediately; a payment cut by 30% counts for its full amount, with the withholding recorded alongside. Software designed for companies reasons in invoiced amounts, and that is precisely what makes its figures wrong for you.

The official model, reproduced line by line

The register hands every member an invoice model. We reproduced it as is, emblem, table, amount in words, exemption footnote, identity block, because it is the document accounts departments know. You add your logo and signature. The other templates exist for those who want an invoice in their own image; the official model exists for those who want no discussion at all. The mandatory details are the same everywhere.

Two languages, one document

Your clients read French, sometimes English. The software and your documents exist in both, and you choose the language per document, not for the whole account. The legal mentions remain those of the Moroccan regime whatever the language: an invoice in English still carries the article 91 exemption, in dirhams.

What we refuse to add

  • Double-entry bookkeeping. You are not required to keep it; we will not impose it. The day you set up a company, your CSV exports are enough for an accountant to start.
  • Features that need training. If a page needs a tutorial, it is badly designed, and we redo it.
  • Commitments. Each payment covers a month or a year; nothing is charged automatically, and the 15-day trial asks for no card.
  • Data resale and advertising. The business model is the subscription, full stop. The Security and data page details it.

How the product evolves

Requests come from users, and we rank them with one question: how many auto-entrepreneurs does this help, and how much time does it save them? Products and stock arrived that way, for artisans and resellers. Recurring invoices too, for those who bill the same thing every month. The official model came from a user who sent us their own invoice saying “yours is not this one”. They were right. What comes next will come the same way.

What is coming

Electronic invoicing is being prepared in Morocco; we follow the texts and the product will be ready when the obligations are set, without you having to change tools. The guides and this blog will keep explaining each rule as it changes.

Frequently asked questions

Does SoloGestion do accounting?
No, by choice. The auto-entrepreneur is not required to. SoloGestion keeps the payment register, prepares the quarter and exports as CSV for the day an accountant steps in.
Who is SoloGestion made for?
For any activity on the national register: freelancers, consultants, artisans, retailers, creatives, service providers. Each profession has its page, for example the freelancers one.
Can I use it on my phone?
Yes. The app adapts to the phone: creating a quote, recording a payment, sending a reminder, everything can be done from anywhere.
How do I request a feature?
By email to contact@sologestion.ma, with a concrete example of what you are trying to do. Requests are ranked by the number of auto-entrepreneurs they help.
